The 3D visualisation made it easy to convey the scale and detail of ‘Blanket’ to the Sculpture by the Sea curators, bringing my concept to life.
Summary
For her project “Blanket,” artist Steph De Biasi needed a detailed 3D visualisation to support her submission to Sculpture by the Sea. The visualisation helped convey the scale and intricacy of a sculpture made entirely from recycled wine bottle lids, fashioned into a chain-mail blanket form.
Planning
The concept for “Blanket” involved creating a large chain-mail structure from thousands of recycled wine bottle lids, connected to form an intricate, blanket-like sculpture. The goal was to communicate the environmental message of repurposing materials into art. To support her proposal, we worked with Steph to create a realistic 3D model that would accurately showcase the piece’s textures, details, and scale.
Process
We started with Steph’s initial sketches and measurements, developing a 3D model that captured the look and feel of the chain-mail structure. Using detailed textures and lighting effects, we highlighted the individual wine bottle lids and their unique metallic finish. Multiple angles and close-ups were generated to showcase the sculpture’s scale and the impressive craftsmanship behind the chain-mail construction.
Outcome
The 3D visualisation of “Blanket” played an essential role in helping Steph present her concept to the Sculpture by the Sea curators. The detailed renders allowed them to clearly envision the artistic and environmental impact of “Blanket,” ultimately aiding in securing its acceptance into the exhibition. This visualisation provided a powerful preview that highlighted Steph’s innovative approach to recycled art.
